Congressman Francis Rooney’s statement on accountability in the Department of Education
Washington, D.C.- Today, Congressman Francis Rooney, along with House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, sent a letter to Secretary Betsy DeVos regarding accountability measures at the Department of Education to prevent waste and fraud.
Congressman Rooney stated, “Accountability at federal agencies is of the utmost importance to make sure taxpayer dollars are being wisely spent. This is why I, along with Chairwoman Foxx, sent a letter to Secretary DeVos to see how the Department of Education is proactively working to safeguard taxpayer dollars against waste and fraud. We must make sure there are measures in place to hold employees accountable.”
Background: Congressman Rooney introduced H.R. 4702, the Department of Education Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, a bill that would replicate the same proposals the VA was mandated to follow under S.1094 - Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which was signed by President Trump in June 2017.
