Congressman Francis Rooney’s statement on the President’s plan to lower drug prices

Naples, FL- Congressman Francis Rooney issued the following statement regarding the administration’s plan to lower prescription drug prices.

Congressman Rooney stated, “Prescription drug prices continue to skyrocket. According to the Peterson-Kaiser Health System Tracker, prescription drug spending per capita has risen from $90 in 1965 to over $1,000 in 2016, and is an unacceptable burden to place upon our senior citizens, especially when people in foreign countries may pay less for these drugs. We need to require 'most favored nation' pricing to assure that we here in the United States receive the lowest price offered anywhere else in the world. If we do this, other countries will have no choice but to pay their share of research and development for new drugs. This is a good start but we need legislation to accomplish this."

Background:

Congressman Rooney is a co-sponsor of H.R. 2212, the CREATES Act of 2017, which would provide an efficient, tailored path for generic drug manufacturers to obtain relief so they can continue working to bring their lower-cost product to market.
