Congressman Rooney statement on Congressional pay during the Government Shutdown
Washington, DC – Statement from the office of Representative Francis Rooney on Congressional pay during the government shutdown:
Throughout the duration of the government shutdown, Congressman Francis Rooney will be donating his pay to the Collier County Honor Flight program. If the men and women serving in our military aren’t being paid, Congressmembers shouldn’t be either.
About Collier County Honor Flight:
Collier County Honor Flight’s mission is to transport local (Collier and Lee County) Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. Support for these trips is provided by volunteers and is at no cost to the veterans. Top priority is given to the most senior heroes – survivors of WWII and any veteran with a terminal illness who wishes to visit their memorial. Prior to the Honor Flight Network, many veterans had given up all hope of ever seeing the World War II Memorial. We truly believe that the service of our WWII veterans and their sacrifices saved the world from oppression and this is a very small way of saying, “thank you.”
