Congressman Rooney Supports Budget that Eliminates Deficit, Strengthens Military and Paves the Way for Tax Reform

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Francis Rooney voted in support of a House plan that will balance the budget within 10 years by cutting spending, reducing the size and scope of government, and stimulating economic growth.

Congressman Rooney stated, “This Budget is the fiscally responsible blueprint Congress needs as it works towards; tax reforms to allow hard working Americans to keep more of what they earn, rebuilds our military that has been decimated over these last eight years, removes the waste and fraud in mandatory spending programs such as welfare, and gets rid of the obscene and immoral debt that burdens our children and grandchildren.”

The budget achieves $6.5 trillion in total deficit reduction over 10 years and produces a $9 billion surplus by 2027.

With threats on the rise around the world, this budget provides our men and women in uniform with the resources they need to complete the missions at hand, includes significant funding to secure the border, and calls for increased accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure our veterans receive the care they deserve.

Finally, this Budget instructs 11 House committees to achieve at least $203 billion in mandatory savings and reforms. This is the largest mandatory reform package in 20 years. This Budget also calls for pro-growth tax reform that achieves the following: Lower tax rates for individuals and companies; a simpler and fairer tax code so families spend less time and money complying with tax laws.
