Congressman Francis Rooney Congratulates Callista Gingrich on Nomination as U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See
Washington, DC - Congressman Francis Rooney issued the following statement to congratulate Callista Gingrich on her nomination as United States Ambassador to the Holy See.
“I would like to personally congratulate Mrs. Gingrich on her nomination. A devout Catholic with a tremendous amount of experience, Callista is a great choice to serve as Ambassador to the Holy See. Furthermore, her close relationship with President Trump provides a great opportunity to strengthen relations with the Holy See, similar to the relationship when I served as Ambassador under President George W. Bush.
“The Holy See has a unique role in foreign policy through its use of moral persuasion, or ‘soft power.’ Mrs. Gingrich will be in a unique position to work alongside the Catholic Church where United States interests are aligned, including working to protect religious freedom and promoting human rights, as well as fighting against radical Islamic terrorism. I wish her the best of luck.”
Congressman Rooney served as United States Ambassador to the Holy See under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2008.
