Congressman Francis Rooney Testifies before House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman Francis Rooney (FL-19) issued the following statement regarding his testimony before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies regarding Army Corps of Engineers funding for Everglades restoration projects.

“I would like to thank Committee Chairman Simpson and Ranking Member Kaptur for the opportunity to present testimony on such an important issue for Southwest Florida. The key to Everglades restoration is the funding and completion of a series of projects authorized in the Water Resource Development Acts (WRDA) of 2007, 2014 and 2016 pursuant to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Project (CERP), enacted in 2000. Additionally, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needs funding to complete reinforcement of the Herbert Hoover Dike around Lake Okeechobee. I continue to encourage the Committee to provide sufficient funding to the Army Corps of Engineers to carry out these important responsibilities.”

Wednesday’s subcommittee hearing marks the fourth time that Congressman Rooney has testified on water quality in the past month. Additionally, the entire Florida Congressional delegation has sent a letter, authored by Congressman Rooney, to President Trump requesting the inclusion of funding for Everglades restoration in his FY 2018 budget. Congressman Rooney is also a member of the bipartisan Congressional Everglades Caucus.
